National Annexes
In Germany, National Annexes are being developed for each Eurocode.
These will contain the values left open to national choice in the relevant Eurocode, the "Nationally Determined Parameters (NADs)". This allows these values to be used in Germany, although the recommendations in the Eurocode itself should be followed wherever possible.
National Annexes to Eurocodes have an informative status. According to Guidance Paper L the following options are allowed:
- An informative National Annex may be amended to the Eurocode.
- "The content of the National Annex can be the basis for a national standard" (in Germany, for instance, the content of the NA can be declared to be normative by the building authorities and published as a national standard).
- The National Annex may be dispensed with.
- "The content ... can be referred to in a National Regulation" (i.e. a national regulation can be published rather than the NA).
According to the Paper, the following may also be included in the National Annex:
- Decisions on the application of informative annexes.
- Reference to non-contradictory complementary information to assist the user in applying the Eurocode.
